Under the guardianship of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Department and in cooperation with the Protectors of the Tigris Association for Environment Preservation, has organized awareness activities to students regarding the effect of plastic waste on environment.

It can be easily noted that plastic has become an essential part of our daily life, including grocery bags, cutlery, bottles of water, food packaging and many other uses. Such phenomenon has led to accumulating large amounts of plastic waste that undoubtedly has very bad effect on the environment.

Unreasonable consumption of plastic with mismanagement of plastic waste has represented indeed a growing threat resulting in filling up junkyards, choking rivers, and endangering vital systems.

Due to being easily handled with such amazing flexibility in use, plastic products have witnessed a huge increase in consumption. Meanwhile, the infrastructure of local waste management has failed to keep pace with these unprecedented developments. In fact, huge amounts of waste have been accumulating as they are poorly managed. Besides, the outbreak of COVID19 has complicated the situation due to excessive use of masks, sterilizers and packaging materials.

This initiative comes as part of the activities implemented by Al-Mustaqbal University College to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals that focus on the preservation of environment and community.
