AL-Mustaqbal University College Organizes a Workshop entitles “Physical Health as Part of Sustainable Development”<br /><br />Under the guardianship of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, a workshop has been organized in support of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in cooperation with Al-Qasim Sports Club under the title<br />“Physical Health as Part of Sustainable Development”<br />During the workshop, a lecture has been given by Dr. Harith Abdul-Ilah Al-Shukri, Department of Physical Education & Sports Sciences. It is remarkable to note that pioneers of different age groups have attended the workshop as well as coaches of various sports games.<br />The lecturer has clarified that regular participation in sports and physical activities shall be an essential key to social and health benefits, confirming that is not only physical fitness to be developed, but such activities also implant a healthy lifestyle among children and young people. Thus, they shall remain active, healthy and capable of combating almost all non-communicable diseases. Besides, Physical exercises can stimulate positive mental health and cognitive development. It has been found as well that there is a strong connection between physical exercises and the type of improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence. Moreover, they have positive effect on the individuals who suffer from depression and anxiety. <br />Dr. Harith Al-Shukri, in his useful speech, has pointed out that physical activities are very necessary and highly required for children and young people. Accordingly, physical activities and sports in general shall be included within the school curricula. Such step is considered as essential for comprehensive education, and meanwhile achieving the fourth goal of the SDGs, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education. Sports shall be adopted as a system, which promotes lifelong learning opportunities for everybody. Sports could be an alternative educational procedure for children who cannot attend school. Students in general shall learn the main values of sports, including team work, fair play, respect of rules and other players, cooperation, discipline and tolerance.<br />In the end, Dr. Harith has concluded that we are highly required to strengthen the relationship between sports and our system of life and reinforce the role of sports in achieving the “Sustainable Development Goals”. Universities all together with Sports Clubs shall have an essential and active role in this field, specifically in developing and implementing the rules and regulations of sports education whether inside or outside schools in a way that can be used in promoting special values among students and young people and enhancing their life skills so that they can better participate in promoting sustainable goals. In turn, Al-Qasim Sports Club has forwarded a letter of thanks and appreciation to Dr. Harith Abdul-Ilah Al-Shukri in appreciation of his sincere and outstanding efforts.
