Awareness Campaign: “The Impact of Hormones on the Skin” Under the Supervision of the Medical Physics Department Professors

<br />As part of promoting health awareness and achieving sustainable development goals, the Medical Physics Department at the College of Science, Future University, organized an awareness campaign titled “The Impact of Hormones on the Skin.” The campaign was supervised by the department’s professors (Asst. Lecturer Afrah Hussein Jihad, Asst. Lecturer Zahraa Basim Hamza, and Asst. Lecturer Iftikhar Thamer Kamil). The initiative aimed to highlight the role of hormones in skin health and the effects of hormonal imbalances on skin appearance. This campaign supports Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by enhancing the understanding of the relationship between hormonal balance and skin health, as well as Goal 4 (Quality Education) by spreading scientific knowledge among students and the academic community.<br /><br />Campaign Objectives<br /> 1. Raising awareness about the impact of hormones on skin health and overall well-being.<br /> 2. Educating participants on how to manage hormonal changes to maintain healthy skin.<br /> 3. Providing medical advice on preventing skin issues related to hormonal imbalances.<br /> 4. Encouraging regular medical check-ups to monitor hormonal balance and minimize its negative effects on the skin.<br /><br />Campaign Activities<br /><br />The campaign included various awareness activities, such as:<br /> • Scientific lectures on the role of hormones like estrogen, testosterone, cortisol, and insulin in skin health.<br /> • Interactive workshops discussing skincare methods for different age groups and the impact of nutrition on hormonal balance.<br /> • Open discussion sessions with specialists in medical physics and dermatology to answer participants’ inquiries.<br /><br />Key Topics Covered<br /> 1. Estrogen: Maintains skin elasticity and reduces wrinkles.<br /> 2. Testosterone: Excess levels lead to oil production and acne.<br /> 3. Cortisol: Increases stress levels, causing skin dryness and breakouts.<br /> 4. Insulin: Imbalances can result in acne and excessive oil secretion.<br /> 5. Melatonin: Contributes to skin cell regeneration during sleep.<br /><br />Campaign Outcomes<br /><br />The campaign successfully raised awareness among students and participants about the link between hormones and skin health. It encouraged adopting healthy habits that support hormonal balance, such as following a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and managing stress.<br /><br />Recommendations & Conclusions<br /> • Continuing awareness campaigns on hormonal health and its effects on skin and general health.<br /> • Enhancing collaboration between scientific departments and healthcare institutions to provide accurate skincare information.<br /> • Encouraging medical check-ups to monitor hormone levels and prevent related disorders.<br /><br />Conclusion<br /><br />The campaign achieved significant success in spreading awareness about the effects of hormones on the skin. It contributed to public health by providing valuable information on maintaining healthy skin.
