Under the supervision of the Head of the Civil and Construction Engineering Department and in alignment with the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals (Quality Education), Lecturer Noora Fawzi organized an awareness activity titled "Scaffolding: Types and Importance in Construction Safety."

Scaffolding is a temporary structure used to support workers and materials during construction, maintenance, or renovation activities. It is an essential component in construction sites, providing a safe and efficient working environment at various heights. The use of scaffolding plays a crucial role in reducing accidents and ensuring worker safety, making it a vital part of safety procedures in engineering projects.

Types of Scaffolding
Scaffolding can be classified based on installation and usage into several types:

Fixed Scaffolding: Built on the ground or attached to building walls, used in long-term projects requiring stable access.

Mobile Scaffolding: Equipped with wheels for easy movement, suitable for projects that require constant repositioning.

Suspended Scaffolding: Hung from the top of buildings using ropes or chains, ideal for maintenance and painting of high-rise façades.

Supported Scaffolding: Installed on the ground, used for tasks involving heavy equipment loads.

Cantilever Scaffolding: Extends from the side of a building without ground support, used when traditional scaffolding installation is not feasible.

Importance of Scaffolding in Construction Safety
Reducing Fall Risks: Provides a stable and secure platform for workers performing tasks at different heights.

Enhancing Work Efficiency: Facilitates access to elevated areas, improving project speed and productivity.

Supporting Tools and Materials: Minimizes the need for manual lifting of heavy tools, reducing worker fatigue and increasing efficiency.

Compliance with Safety Standards: Using scaffolding designed according to engineering standards minimizes accidents and ensures a safe working environment.

Conclusion
Scaffolding is a fundamental element in the construction sector, ensuring worker safety and improving project execution efficiency. Choosing the right type of scaffolding depends on project requirements and safety regulations, contributing to successful construction operations and adherence to occupational safety standards.

University of Al-Mustaqbal – The First University in Iraq
