Artificial intelligence plays an increasing role in predicting the spread of epidemics by analyzing vast amounts of health data, population movements, weather patterns, and social interactions to detect indicators of disease spread before it becomes widespread.

AI models use data from multiple sources, such as search engines, social media platforms, medical records, and epidemiological reports, allowing the detection of abnormal patterns in the emergence of symptoms among populations. For example, AI helped identify early indicators of the spread of COVID-19 by analyzing internet search data and medical reports in the early stages of the outbreak.

The main benefit of these technologies is their ability to accurately predict where and when a disease will spread, enabling governments and healthcare institutions to take rapid preventive measures. For instance, this data can be used to impose travel restrictions or enhance medical preparedness, reducing the impact of epidemics on public health.

The challenges in this field lie in ensuring data accuracy and analysis, as models must be able to adapt to constantly changing data. However, AI may provide a powerful tool to help health authorities make proactive decisions to deal with epidemics more effectively.

Al-Mustaqbal University is the first University in Iraq.
