Sustainability Ambassadors in the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems Organize an Awareness Workshop on the Risks of Unsafe Social Media Use.

The Sustainability Ambassadors in the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, College of Science – Al-Mustaqbal University, organized an awareness workshop entitled “The Risks of Using Unsafe Social Media Platforms”, presented by Assistant Professor Qusay Muneer Diab, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit in the department, and attended by a number of students.<br /><br />The workshop was held in response to the growing wave of cyber threats and the increasing risks associated with unsafe usage of social media platforms. As these platforms have become deeply embedded in daily life, it has become necessary to raise awareness about dangers such as privacy breaches, online fraud, and the spread of misinformation, which can seriously impact both personal and professional lives.<br /><br />This initiative aims to promote a culture of digital safety among students and to encourage responsible technology use. Participants were guided toward safe online behavior and provided with the knowledge necessary to protect their personal data from various forms of electronic threats.<br /><br />The workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals that Al-Mustaqbal University seeks to achieve through its strategic vision. It contributes to Quality Education by spreading digital awareness and empowering students to interact with technology responsibly. It also supports Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by highlighting the importance of cybersecurity and promoting safe digital practices. Furthermore, it reinforces Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by combating digital misinformation and strengthening the foundations of trust in digital environments.<br /><br />The session covered real-life risks users face while navigating untrusted platforms, including weak passwords, malicious links, and violations of privacy. It also addressed the psychological and social effects of excessive social media use, such as digital addiction, cyberbullying, and unrealistic comparisons that can harm mental health.<br /><br />The workshop concluded with key recommendations, including the use of strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, avoiding the sharing of personal data with untrusted sources, regularly updating privacy settings, and verifying news sources before sharing content.<br /><br />This initiative reflects the proactive role of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems and its Sustainability Ambassadors in promoting digital awareness and cybersecurity, in alignment with Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment—Iraq’s leading university—to fostering a safe, sustainable, and informed digital learning environment.<br /><br />Al-Mustaqbal University is the first University in Iraq.
