Digitalization in education represents a golden opportunity to deliver knowledge to the largest possible number of individuals, regardless of geographical location or financial status. Open educational platforms, digital content, and distance learning have contributed to reducing certain aspects of educational inequality.

However, the digital divide still exists, as some lack basic infrastructure such as high-speed internet or appropriate devices. This results in the emergence of a "digital education gap" instead of closing the original gap.

Digital learning also requires technical and cognitive skills that may be absent in poor or marginalized environments. Therefore, digitalization alone is not enough; it must be accompanied by comprehensive interventions that include training, equipment provision, and infrastructure development.

Harnessing digitalization to bridge the gap requires a fair approach that ensures resources and opportunities are equitably distributed—not merely theoretically accessible.

Equitable digital education is not measured by the number of platforms, but by the number of minds that were able to access and benefit from it.

AL Mustaqbal University The First University in Iraq.
