Clogging of Heat Exchanger Tubes as a Cause of Energy Waste
Eng. Nourhan Thamer Assi

🎯 Relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
Goal 13 – Climate Action
Heat exchangers are essential components in many industrial systems used to transfer heat between fluids. Over time, the tubes inside these exchangers can become clogged due to the buildup of deposits such as salts, sludge, oils, or fine particles present in the fluids.
This clogging significantly reduces heat transfer efficiency, leading to increased energy consumption just to maintain performance. As a result, more energy is used with less output, which constitutes energy waste and higher operational costs.

To address this issue, regular maintenance is required—including tube cleaning, fluid quality monitoring, and the use of effective filtration systems. These actions help improve equipment efficiency, reduce energy loss, and support sustainable industrial operations.Al-Mustaqbal University The First University in Iraq
