Smart buildings rely on advanced systems like Building Management Systems (BMS), which control lighting, HVAC, security, and alarms via a centralized control center, using intelligent sensors to monitor conditions and automatically adapt for improved performance.
Internet of Things (IoT) technologies play a crucial role in connecting devices and facilities, enabling data exchange and optimized usage, such as turning off lights or adjusting HVAC based on actual need. Smart materials like electrochromic glass and self-healing concrete have also become integral, extending building lifespan and reducing maintenance.
Furthermore, 3D printing, robotics, and drones contribute to accelerating construction processes with greater precision and safety while minimizing waste. These innovations represent a qualitative leap towards sustainable smart cities, where engineering and technology merge to enhance quality of life.

AL Mustaqbal University The First University in Iraq
