This reality necessitates rethinking traditional design and construction methods to adapt to changing climatic conditions and mitigate associated risks.
Manifestations of climate change include rising temperatures, increased storm intensity, rising sea levels, and frequent floods and droughts, significantly impacting the safety and performance of long-term engineering structures such as bridges, dams, and critical buildings.
Hence, integrating future climate analyses into the early design stages has become essential. This includes designing drainage systems to handle larger volumes of water, using materials resistant to heat and humidity, and reinforcing foundations against rising groundwater levels. The concept of flexibility in design is also adopted to create structures capable of adapting to unforeseen future changes.
Technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and climate simulation models assist engineers in predicting future climate impacts and improving design decisions.
Ultimately, design in the era of climate change is an ethical and social responsibility that involves both adaptation and reducing carbon emissions through adopting sustainability principles, using renewable energy, and eco-friendly materials.

AL Mustaqbal University The First University in Iraq
