Iraq Moves Towards Alternative Energy to Boost Sustainable Development and Energy Security<br />Eng.Abdullah Merzah Hamzah <br /><br />🌱This approach aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):<br />Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy – Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.<br />Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – Promoting sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work.<br />Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure – Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation.<br />Goal 13: Climate Action – Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.<br />Baghdad – In a strategic move, Iraq has started exploring the shift to alternative and renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, aiming to reduce dependence on oil, enhance energy security, and achieve sustainable development.<br />Economic analysis indicates that despite the initially high investment costs, alternative energy creates new job opportunities, helps diversify the national economy, and reduces harmful emissions, improving air quality and public health.<br />Iraq faces challenges related to infrastructure, financing, and technical expertise shortages.
