New Technologies in Recycling to Reduce Waste
Eng. Nourhan Thamer Assi

Relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
With the increasing volume of waste worldwide, new recycling technologies have emerged to improve efficiency and minimize landfill waste. Some of these technologies include:

Chemical Recycling: Converts used plastics into chemical raw materials that can be reused to produce new plastics, reducing the need for virgin materials.

Smart Sorting with Artificial Intelligence: Uses advanced systems with robots and smart cameras to accurately and quickly separate waste streams.
Biological Recycling: Employs microorganisms to break down organic waste into compost or bioenergy.

3D Printing from Recycled Materials: Allows manufacturing new products using recycled plastics or metals, reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.
These technologies contribute to reducing pollution, improving resource quality, and enhancing the role of recycling in sustainable development.

"Al-Mustaqbal University – The No. 1 Private University in Iraq"
