Recycling: A Key Step in Combating Climate Change
Eng. Nourhan Thamer Assi

Related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 13 – Climate Action

Recycling is a vital action that directly contributes to combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions. By converting used materials into new products, we reduce the need for raw material production, which often consumes large amounts of energy and produces significant greenhouse gases.

Recycling helps lower carbon dioxide emissions substantially by saving the energy required for manufacturing compared to producing from virgin materials. It also reduces waste accumulation in landfills, which emit methane — a potent greenhouse gas.

By promoting a recycling culture, communities can play an active role in mitigating climate change and supporting sustainable development goals related to the environment and energy.

"Al-Mustaqbal University – The No. 1 Private University in Iraq"
