Prosthetics and orthotics engineering is a modern interdisciplinary field that merges medical and engineering knowledge to serve individuals with mobility impairments. Iraqi universities such as Al-Nahrain and Karbala have launched graduate programs in this specialty to prepare research-oriented professionals capable of developing smart prosthetics and advanced orthotic systems that align with global advancements and local needs.<br /><br />These programs focus on various areas, including smart material design, motion control systems, biomechanical analysis, and advanced modeling software. Students are also encouraged to engage in applied research projects in collaboration with medical centers and industrial partners, enhancing their practical skills and preparing them for careers in industry or academia.<br /><br />Despite its growing importance, the field still faces challenges such as limited specialized labs, insufficient research funding, and a lack of international collaboration. Nevertheless, the increasing interest in this specialization and the presence of qualified faculty suggest a promising future for graduate studies in prosthetics and orthotics engineering as a vital contributor to rehabilitation care in Iraq and beyond.
