When selecting a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) in institutions involved in radiation-related work, the following considerations must be taken into account:

The RPO must be a member of the institution’s staff, specialized in the field of radiation, and officially appointed through an administrative order.

Approval must be obtained from the National Radiation Protection Authority for the appointment of the RPO, in order to provide them with a work license and a separate identification badge, as their duties expose them to radiation hazards.

The RPO is responsible for monitoring the implementation of safety standards, submitting reports, and conducting regular checks and assessments of personnel working in radiation-related fields within the institution.

The RPO is also in charge of maintaining and updating records of radioactive sources as well as dosimetry and medical examination records of personnel.

The RPO directly supervises the transportation, maintenance, calibration, storage, and disposal of radioactive sources (devices or materials).

The RPO must participate in theoretical and practical training courses, both inside and outside the country, on radiation hazards, protection methods, and contamination prevention.

"AL_mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq"

al-mustaqbal University Website
