With the rapid expansion of digital systems and networks, online communications have become a primary target for cyberattacks and data manipulation attempts. This has created a growing need for protocol analysis techniques as a fundamental tool in digital forensics and cybersecurity.

These techniques analyze the behavior of data packets and monitor communication patterns to detect any manipulation or intrusion that may compromise the confidentiality and integrity of information. Among the most widely used tools are Wireshark, for traffic analysis, and Snort, as an intrusion detection and prevention system.

Importance of These Techniques within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions (Goal 16): Strengthening institutional capacity to secure data builds public trust and ensures the integrity of digital transactions.

Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (Goal 9): Protecting communication networks and digital infrastructure supports the sustainability of vital services such as energy, banking, and telecommunications.

Quality Education (Goal 4): Training students and professionals in protocol analysis tools enhances their expertise in digital forensics and prepares them for the global job market.

Recommendations:

Invest in specialized training on protocol analysis techniques.

Establish advanced university laboratories to support research and practical applications.

Foster local and international collaboration to combat cross-border cybercrimes.

The advancement and application of these techniques go beyond data protection; they contribute to building secure and resilient societies capable of addressing digital challenges in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Al-Mustaqbal University the first university in Iraq
