In line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the vision of Al-Mustaqbal University to enhance health and environmental awareness, the Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques organized on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, an online scientific workshop entitled:<br />“Infectious Diseases and Their Relation to Climate Change”, delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Noors Noori Mohammed via Google Meet, as part of the proposed workshop schedule in preparation for the Sustainability Camp to be launched at the beginning of October 2025.<br /><br />The workshop focused on the direct and indirect health impacts of climate change on the spread of infectious diseases, highlighting the mechanisms of pathogen transmission under environmental changes, and the effects of rising temperatures and climate fluctuations on the activity and spread of infectious agents in new regions. It also addressed the relationship between public health and climate change, and the crucial role of medical laboratories in monitoring, analyzing, and providing scientific solutions to mitigate these impacts.<br /><br />The lecturer emphasized the importance of integration between the health and environmental sectors in tackling climate change challenges, stressing that strengthening scientific research and community awareness represents the first line of defense for prevention and risk reduction.<br /><br />This workshop falls under two key pillars of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):<br /> • Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being<br /> • Goal 13: Climate Action<br /><br />The session concluded with a call for participants to actively contribute to strengthening their academic and research roles in addressing health and environmental challenges, and to work collaboratively in applying scientific research outcomes to serve society and promote sustainability goals.<br />Al-Mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq <br />Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques – First in the Iraqi National Ranking.
