Ophthalmic surgery is one of the most prominent applications that has greatly benefited from laser technology. It has been effectively used to correct various vision defects such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. These procedures rely on a special type of laser that precisely removes thin layers of corneal tissue, reshaping it to improve the eye’s focusing ability.

One of the most advanced laser-based techniques is femtosecond laser technology, which enables highly efficient LASIK and excimer procedures, reducing recovery time and minimizing complications compared to traditional methods.

Laser technology allows for highly precise vision correction without the need for large surgical incisions, significantly reducing bleeding and swelling during the procedure. It is also used to treat glaucoma by creating openings in the iris or facilitating fluid drainage with greater precision, helping sustainably lower intraocular pressure.

Additionally, laser therapy is applied in treating retinopathy and clearing the retina after lesions or hemorrhages. The accurate targeting of laser beams helps stop the growth of abnormal blood vessels or treat affected areas without damaging healthy tissue.

Al-Mustaqbal University – The First University in Iraq

Goal 4
