Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and the supervision of the Head of the Media Department, Prof. Dr. Akram Faraj Al-Rubaie, the Department of Media at the College of Arts and Humanities organized an awareness seminar on the occasion of the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage Preservation.
This activity comes in line with Target 11.4 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which focuses on safeguarding tangible and intangible cultural heritage and promoting societal awareness of its importance.
The seminar was attended by the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Hussein Waheed Aziz, along with a number of faculty members and students from various academic stages, creating an atmosphere of interaction and constructive discussion.
The seminar’s topics were presented by Asst. Lecturer Musaddiq Abdulameer Kareem Al-Saffar, Asst. Lecturer Abdulrahman Abbas Abdulrahman, and Asst. Lecturer Sarah Hakim Fneikh. The discussions addressed the concept of audiovisual heritage, methods of its preservation, modern mechanisms of digital archiving, and the role of media and educational institutions in protecting it from disappearance, as it represents an essential part of the community’s cultural memory and historical identity.
The seminar witnessed active participation from attendees, who contributed comments and questions emphasizing the importance of developing documentation and archiving infrastructure within academic and media institutions, and enhancing cooperation with relevant entities to ensure the sustainability of efforts aimed at preserving this type of heritage for future generations.
