A joint research team from the College of Science at the University of Al-Mustaqbal and the College of Science for Women at the University of Babylon has obtained a U.S. Patent for an innovative scientific achievement. Within the framework of scientific collaboration with the University of Babylon, and as a new scientific and practical step, the team invented an alternative method for monitoring gene-coated bacteria through a biotechnology process. The patent was officially registered at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This invention relates to the field of monitoring biotechnological processes, particularly the monitoring of gene-coated bioremediation bacteria. Typically, such processes are not monitored directly or accurately using conventional methods such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDX), which provides only approximate detection of elements absorbed in alginate beads, or Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), which is highly expensive. To address this limitation, the researchers proposed the use of X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) Spectrometry as a simpler, more precise, and less costly method for detecting alginate beads coated with bioremediation bacteria. The USPTO has granted the patent titled: 🔬 “Alternative Method of Monitoring the Alginate-Coated Bacteria Through the Biotechnology Process” The patent was awarded to Asst. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Zuhair Naji Al-Muraib, Rapporteur of the Department of Medical Biotechnology, College of Science – University of Al-Mustaqbal, in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadia Mahmood Tawfiq from the College of Science for Women – University of Babylon, along with other professors from University of Al-Ameed and Al-Qasim Green University. This remarkable achievement represents an important step forward in developing biotechnological methods aimed at eliminating environmental pollutants through sustainable and eco-friendly approaches, without any side effects on nature. It also contributes to the advancement of scientific research and strengthens the national and international standing of both University of Al-Mustaqbal and University of Babylon in the fields of innovation and scientific research. University of Al-Mustaqbal — the No.1 University in Iraq.
