with the Patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and the Direct Supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Asst. Prof. Dr. Forat Hamza Al-Sultani, and based on the directives issued by the University Presidency regarding the prohibition of smoking within the university campus and the imposition of financial penalties on violators, the Department of Biology organized a scientific workshop entitled: “The Phenomenon of Smoking and Its Effects” The workshop was presented by Lecturer Jaafar Hamed Jaafar, the Department’s Rapporteur. It addressed the health hazards of smoking, its negative impacts on the human body, particularly the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, in addition to discussing the social and economic consequences of smoking, with an emphasis on the role of students in promoting health awareness within the university community. The workshop included scientific and educational discussions supported by recent data and examples, and witnessed active participation and interaction from students, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering a healthy, smoke-free campus environment. This activity comes as part of a series of scientific and awareness events organized by the Department of Biology in support of the university’s vision to promote health consciousness and positive behavior among students. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq.
