In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, a workshop titled "Towards a Sustainable Laboratory: Principles of Effective Sterilization and Safe Resource Utilization" was held.
Lecturer: M.Sc. Sajaa Falah Hassan
Date: November 12, 2025
Time: 11:00 a.m.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of implementing sustainable sterilization practices within laboratory environments by enhancing work efficiency, ensuring staff safety, and reducing resource waste.
It covered the fundamental scientific principles of effective sterilization and optimal use of laboratory tools and materials. In addition, it reviewed best practices in waste management and reducing the environmental impact of laboratories. The session also discussed the role of environmental awareness and continuous training in fostering a responsible and sustainable laboratory culture.
The workshop further demonstrated how effective sterilization and safe resource utilization contribute to:
• Increasing laboratory efficiency by maintaining a contamination-free and safe environment.
• Improving the quality of scientific results and reducing errors caused by improper practices.
• Promoting sustainability through water and energy conservation and reducing laboratory waste.
• Supporting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility in academic and research laboratories.
