The nervous system is one of the most vital systems in the human body. It controls and coordinates all body activities by connecting the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. The nervous system is divided into two main parts:
1. Central Nervous System (CNS) – includes the brain and spinal cord.
2. Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) – connects the brain to the rest of the body.
Its main function is to transmit nerve signals, control movement, sensation, and mental processes such as thinking and memory.
One of the major disorders affecting the nervous system is Epilepsy, a chronic neurological condition caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain, leading to repeated seizures or temporary loss of consciousness.
🔹 Treatment of Epilepsy:
The goal of epilepsy treatment is to control the abnormal electrical activity and prevent seizures. The main treatment methods include:
1. Antiepileptic Drugs (AEDs): These are the most common treatments and help reduce or stop seizures.
2. Nerve Stimulation: Such as vagus nerve stimulation, which helps regulate brain activity.
3. Surgery: In cases resistant to medication, the affected part of the brain may be surgically removed.
4. Lifestyle Modifications: Adequate sleep, stress management, and avoiding triggers that cause seizures.
With proper treatment and medical supervision, most people with epilepsy can live normal and healthy lives.
