Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shaker Majdi, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries at the College of Engineering, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized an awareness seminar on Monday, November 17, 2025, entitled “Drugs in Iraq: Between Reality, Combating, and Treatment.” The seminar was attended by third-year students and several faculty members. The seminar was presented by consultant engineer Alaa Hamza Daham, who provided an analytical overview of the drug problem in Iraq, the efforts of the government and security forces in combating it, and the legal framework governing drug use under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Law No. (50) of 2017. He also discussed the most prominent treatment and rehabilitation centers, the latest statistics on seizures, and the importance of the free hotline (178) in supporting security and awareness efforts. At the conclusion of the seminar, the speaker emphasized the importance of intensifying awareness campaigns among young people, strengthening cooperation between educational institutions and relevant authorities to reduce drug use, and improving access to treatment and rehabilitation centers.
