Under the patronage of Al-Mustaqbal University – College of Nursing, and as part of the activities of the Iraqi Anti-Drug Week 2025, an extensive awareness lecture was held titled: “Methods of Drug Prevention and Treatment” Presented by Dr. Burhan Hadi Darb, a specialist in health awareness and addiction prevention. The lecture covered the following topics: • Scientific definition of drugs and their natural and chemical types • Psychological, social, and economic factors leading youth to drug use • Serious health effects of drugs on the brain and nervous system • Social consequences of addiction on families, communities, and the future of youth • Prevention strategies: the role of family, school, community, and health media • Modern treatment approaches and internationally recognized rehabilitation programs • The role of educational institutions in raising awareness and combating addiction The lecture was distinguished by: • Wide participation from faculty members and nursing students • Valuable scientific discussions and open dialogues on real-life experiences • Presentation of the latest statistics and studies on addiction in Iraq and the region • Emphasis on the importance of early detection and supporting recovering individuals This activity comes as part of a series of initiatives aimed at: • Protecting students from falling into addiction • Building a generation aware of the health and social impacts of drugs • Enhancing the role of nursing staff in health education and combating addiction Together, we protect our youth and build an aware, drug-free society.
