The Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies held a scientific workshop titled “The Future of Biofuel from Waste Oils” on November 19, 2025, at 9:00 AM, presented to third-stage students by Asst. Lecturer Shahad Mahmood Mohammed.
The workshop highlighted the importance of converting used oils into biodiesel as a sustainable solution for waste management and for reducing emissions associated with fossil fuels.
The session included an explanation of the biodiesel production mechanism, detailing the main stages of transforming waste oils into biofuel.
The presentation also reviewed examples of countries that have successfully implemented this technology, in addition to small-scale biodiesel production plants that rely on used cooking oils, demonstrating the feasibility of applying similar projects locally.
In conclusion, the workshop emphasized that producing biofuel from waste oils represents an integrated environmental and economic solution. It also stressed the importance of supporting scientific research, developing local technologies, and promoting a culture of recycling as essential steps toward advancing sustainable energy.
It was further announced that future practical workshops will be organized on this topic, along with continued development of experiments and research in this field, to strengthen students’ hands-on skills and support modern scientific directions in alternative energy.
