A Scientific Workshop at Al-Mustaqbal University on the Role of Forensic Evidence in Combating Drugs

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, Dean of the College of Science, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sami Abdul Hussein, Head of the Forensic Evidence Department, the Forensic Evidence Department at the College of Science organized a scientific workshop as part of the activities of the International Drug Control Week. The workshop was presented by Brigadier M.A. Ali Hassan Mahdi Kow and Major M.A. Muhannad Khalil Hassan, under the title: "Drugs and Psychoactive Substances: The Role of Forensic Evidence in Detecting Them." The event was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Lateef, Administrative Assistant, along with the department’s faculty and students. The workshop discussed the latest techniques used in forensic evidence analysis, including laboratory testing, biometric comparison technologies, and the analysis of physical and digital traces related to drug and psychoactive substance crimes. It also highlighted the critical role of modern scientific technologies in supporting health and security authorities in early crime detection and limiting their spread. The workshop emphasized the importance of employing advanced forensic expertise to serve the community and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, particularly: Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being through supporting efforts to reduce drug-related risks. Goal 4: Quality Education by enhancing students’ scientific knowledge. At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees praised the efforts exerted in raising community awareness and highlighting the role of Al-Mustaqbal University in serving humanitarian and security issues through scientific research and modern forensic applications.
