Comprehensive Awareness Workshop at the College of Nursing on Cervical Cancer Prevention and Early Detection

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Nursing, the college held yesterday an extensive awareness workshop titled: “Cervical Cancer: Prevention, Early Diagnosis, and the Role of Nursing in Reducing Its Spread.” The workshop was presented by Asst. Instructor Raneem Ibrahim Yousif and Asst. Prof. Fatima Kamel Salim, as part of the scientific and educational activities adopted by the college to enhance students’ awareness and strengthen their clinical and academic skills. The workshop addressed several important topics, including: • An introduction to cervical cancer, its causes, and risk factors. • The role of the HPV virus in the development of the disease and its modes of transmission. • Prevention methods, vaccine effectiveness, and the importance of regular screenings. • The importance of early detection in reducing mortality rates and improving treatment outcomes. • The vital role of nurses in health education, early detection, and patient guidance. The workshop witnessed a large turnout from nursing students, who actively engaged through discussions and questions, adding a distinctive scientific and interactive atmosphere to the session. A number of students also took part in organizing and managing the event, including: Zaid Al-Deen Haitham, Abbas Mohammed Baseer, Mustafa Kazem Jawad, Abbas Ali Redha, and Zain Al-Abideen Basim, who contributed to coordination, reception, and distribution of educational materials. The lecturers emphasized that spreading awareness about cervical cancer is a crucial step in reducing infection rates, and that nursing represents the first line of defense in community health education. This workshop comes as part of a series of scientific activities adopted by the College of Nursing to enhance students’ capabilities and empower them to perform their humanitarian and professional roles with high competence.
