As part of its commitment to enhancing health awareness and developing the skills of its staff, the Anesthesia Technology Department organized a distinguished scientific workshop titled “Rational Use of Antibiotics and Antimicrobial Resistance”, presented by Mr. Zaidon Abdulwahab.
The workshop began with an overview of the vital role antibiotics play in modern medicine, followed by an exploration of the more concerning aspect—the unregulated and improper use of these medications, which stands as one of the major drivers behind the emergence of drug-resistant bacterial strains. The presenter offered an engaging explanation of how such resistance evolves and the significant challenges it poses to healthcare professionals within medical facilities.
Mr.zaidon also presented scientific illustrative examples highlighting the negative consequences of antibiotic misuse, emphasizing that the key lies in strengthening a culture of rational prescribing, adopting precise clinical protocols, and adhering to preventive measures to limit the spread of infections.
The workshop aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), which calls for combating health threats and reducing the spread of diseases—especially as antimicrobial resistance has become one of the most serious risks threatening the future effectiveness of treatments.
This workshop represents a step within a broader vision adopted by the Anesthesia Technology Department to elevate the scientific and professional competence of its staff and students, and to reinforce health practices grounded in knowledge and responsibility.
