Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and as part of the College of Law’s activities in combating intellectual extremism, the College organized a panel discussion entitled: “The Role of Universities in Reducing the Phenomenon of Extremism,” on Wednesday, 26/11/2025, in the college hall – Humanities Building.
The lecture was delivered by Asst. Lecturer Mohammed Kazem Khalil, a faculty member at the College of Law, who addressed the legal and intellectual role that universities can play in reducing manifestations of extremism by promoting academic awareness and reinforcing the principles of moderation and coexistence within the university environment. He also highlighted the importance of awareness programs that contribute to countering extremist ideas and the active role of colleges in promoting a culture of dialogue and rejecting violence.
The seminar also discussed the most significant Iraqi legislations related to limiting intellectual extremism and the mechanisms for implementing them within educational institutions, in addition to reviewing the major challenges that universities face in addressing this phenomenon.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the lecturer emphasized the importance of enhancing students’ legal awareness and adopting constructive discourse that contributes to protecting society and strengthening intellectual security.
