Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Prof. Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and as part of the College of Law’s activities to combat intellectual extremism, the College of Law organized a seminar titled: “The Role of Citizens in Rejecting Intellectual Extremism and Hate Speech”, held on Sunday, 30/11/2025, in the college hall – Humanities Building.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Abdulrahman Abdullah Al-Sarraf, a faculty member of the College of Law, who discussed the importance of the citizen’s role in confronting intellectual extremism and hate speech, as well as methods to promote a culture of dialogue and peaceful coexistence within society. He also addressed the challenges faced by individuals and institutions in spreading the values of moderation and tolerance, and emphasized the importance of community and legal initiatives in curbing the spread of extremist ideas.
The seminar also reviewed the most significant Iraqi and international legislations related to combating hate speech and intellectual extremism, and the mechanisms for applying them within educational and community institutions, in addition to highlighting best practices that contribute to fostering a culture of tolerance and protecting society from the dangers of extremism.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the lecturer emphasized the necessity of adopting effective awareness programs that enhance positive values among citizens and support efforts aimed at protecting society and consolidating intellectual security.
