Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and within the activities of the College of Law in combating ideological extremism, the College organized a panel discussion titled: “The Effectiveness of International Treaties in Combating Ideological Extremism”, held on Monday, 1/12/2025, in the college hall – Humanities Building.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Saad Ubaid Al-Taie, a faculty member at the College of Law, who discussed the effectiveness of international treaties and conventions in addressing the phenomenon of ideological extremism. He reviewed the key legal mechanisms that ensure states’ compliance with these treaties and their role in creating a deterrent legal environment against extremist ideology.
He also highlighted the major challenges facing legal and community institutions in implementing relevant international standards, as well as the importance of enhancing international cooperation and exchanging expertise to curb the spread of extremism. The seminar further included a review of the main obligations outlined in human rights conventions and how they can be employed to promote a culture of peace, tolerance, and the fight against extremist discourse.
At the end of the seminar, the lecturer emphasized the need to adopt effective awareness programs to strengthen the values of moderation and openness, and to support efforts aimed at protecting society from the risks of ideological extremism, in a way that contributes to reinforcing intellectual security and community peace.
