As part of ongoing efforts to promote digital balance and improve quality of life for students and staff, the Sustainability Ambassadors in the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems organized a distinguished awareness workshop titled “Dopamine Fasting: Restoring Focus and Controlling Digital Habits.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Maytham Nabil Miqdad and Assistant Instructor Aheeb Hashim Kareem, who delivered a clear and insightful scientific explanation of dopamine’s effects on the brain and how dopamine fasting can be used as an effective tool to enhance focus, productivity, and reduce digital addiction. During the workshop, several key topics were addressed, including: • Introducing dopamine and its vital role in shaping human behaviors and habits. • Discussing the impact of continuous exposure to digital stimuli on mental health and focus. • Explaining the concept of “dopamine fasting” and how it can be used as a strategy to reset the brain and reduce overstimulation. • Providing practical steps that help individuals reduce dependence on technology and adopt a more balanced and mindful lifestyle. The workshop also highlighted the connection between dopamine fasting and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on: • Its contribution to Goal 4: Quality Education, by reducing digital distractions and enhancing concentration. • Its role in supporting Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, through encouraging sustainable learning methods that rely on the smart use of technology. • Its impact on Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, by decreasing the digital gap among students and promoting better time investment in learning instead of passive digital consumption. The event witnessed strong engagement from participants, who expressed great interest in applying dopamine fasting strategies in their daily lives. Attendees also discussed potential challenges associated with adopting these practices, while exchanging ideas on cultivating more balanced digital habits. This workshop represents an important step in the efforts of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems to enhance digital and health awareness, and to integrate sustainability concepts into educational activities—aligned with Al-Mustaqbal University’s vision of fostering innovation and developing essential life skills for students.
