The Department of Biology – College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University organized an awareness campaign focused on educating students about the importance of cleanliness in preserving the environment. The campaign was supervised by Prof. Dr. Maher Ali Jatan, with the active participation of the department’s students, as part of ongoing efforts to promote positive environmental behaviors and strengthen environmental awareness within the university community. The campaign aimed to highlight the significant role cleanliness plays in protecting ecosystems and reducing pollution, emphasizing the importance of minimizing waste, practicing proper waste segregation, and maintaining the cleanliness of classrooms, laboratories, and public facilities—reflecting a healthy and sustainable learning environment. The activities included providing students with a series of awareness guidelines on how simple daily practices can positively impact the environment, and how cleanliness contributes to reducing pollutants and enhancing public health. Students, under the supervision of their instructor, distributed informative brochures throughout the university, featuring simplified information and messages encouraging environmentally friendly behavior, along with instructional posters emphasizing the importance of preserving the cleanliness of the university environment. Prof. Dr. Maher Ali Jatan affirmed that the Department of Biology continues to implement educational initiatives aimed at building strong environmental awareness among students, based on the department’s responsibility to support sustainable development and promote environmental values that contribute to protecting the environment and preserving its resources. This campaign aligns with the vision of Al-Mustaqbal University, which is committed to fostering a clean and responsible academic environment and encouraging initiatives dedicated to environmental protection and preparing an informed generation capable of contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable planet. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq.
