Antibiotic eye drops are commonly used treatments for bacterial eye infections however, their improper or indiscriminate use may pose a serious risk to eye health. Using these drops without a medical prescription or in incorrect doses can lead to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, making future infections more difficult to treat. Additionally, unnecessary use of antibiotic eye drops may cause eye irritation, redness, and severe dryness, as well as increase the risk of allergic reactions that may appear in the form of swelling, itching, or abnormal discharge. In some cases, excessive use can mask the true symptoms of the condition, which may delay or complicate accurate diagnosis. Therefore, it is always recommended to consult an ophthalmologist before using any type of antibiotic eye drops and to strictly follow the prescribed dosage and treatment duration. Proper use ensures effective and rapid recovery, while misuse can result in more serious complications affecting eye health. **Al-Mustaqbal University – The First University in Iraq 🇮🇶**
