he Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering organized an awareness campaign titled “Quitting Smoking… Better Health and a Safer Future”, supervised by Assistant Lecturer Maryam Ghassan Ghafar, Assistant Lecturer Ghadir Haidar Abbas, and Engineer Aya Hasan Talib, to raise health awareness among students and promote a culture of abandoning harmful habits that affect individual and community health. The campaign included an educational presentation that highlighted the health risks of smoking and its negative effects on the respiratory system, heart, and blood vessels, in addition to explaining the dangers of passive smoking and its impact on the university environment. The activity also provided a set of guidelines and healthy alternatives to support individuals who wish to quit smoking, while emphasizing the important role educational institutions play in encouraging students to adopt healthy lifestyles. The campaign aligned its objectives with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being By enhancing health awareness and reducing diseases associated with smoking. Goal 4: Quality Education Through disseminating health-related information within an educational context that promotes positive behaviors among students. Goal 13: Climate Action By reducing pollution caused by smoking and protecting the university environment. Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation By decreasing smoking-related waste that contributes to environmental contamination.
