With the aim of raising awareness and entrenching safe practices, Al-Mustaqbal University, in cooperation with the Practical and Academic Supervision units, organized a specialized scientific workshop on "Laboratory Health and Safety Skills."
The workshop's topics were presented by Lecturer M.Sc. Mohammed Razaq Jawad, Head of the Laboratories Division at the Babil Environment Directorate, who possesses extensive practical and academic experience in this vital field.
The workshop, attended by a number of university staff and interested individuals, focused on several key themes, including:
· Identifying chemical, biological, and physical hazards in laboratories.
· Standard preventive procedures for handling hazardous materials.
· The use of personal protective equipment and collective protection measures.
· Proper methods for the safe storage of chemicals.
· Emergency and accident response plans within the laboratory (such as spills, fires, exposure to materials).
· Safe and environmentally friendly management of laboratory waste.
This workshop was organized based on the university's responsibility to provide a safe working environment for its students, researchers, and staff, and to promote a preventive culture that is a fundamental pillar of any sound scientific research or work.
The organizers emphasized that adherence to health and safety rules is not merely a routine procedure, but a culture and an ethical and legal responsibility that protects lives and property and contributes to accomplishing scientific work with precision and confidence.
For their part, the participants expressed their great benefit from the workshop's scientific and applied content, calling for the repetition and expansion of such specialized events to include other groups.
