Future University Leads Private Universities and Ranks Third in Iraq in the 2025 UI GreenMetric Ranking
Professor Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, announced that the university has achieved a new milestone in the 2025 UI GreenMetric global ranking. He confirmed that the university has maintained its leading position among Iraqi private universities for the sixth consecutive year, in addition to ranking third nationally out of 87 universities participating in the ranking.
Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi stated that the university has also continued its progress internationally, ranking 166th globally out of 1,745 universities included in this year's ranking. He noted that this progress represents a significant leap, especially given the increase of more than 300 participating universities compared to last year.
He added that Future University demonstrated remarkable excellence in sustainability indicators, ranking first in Iraq in the Water Use Optimal (WR) indicator and in the Education and Research (ED) indicator. This reflects the university's commitment to promoting sound resource management and integrating sustainability principles into its educational process and research projects.
The UI GreenMetric ranking is based on six key pillars for measuring universities' performance in the field of environment and sustainability: infrastructure (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste management (18%), water efficiency (10%), teaching and research (18%), and on-campus transportation (18%). This makes the ranking a global benchmark for evaluating universities' commitment to green development.
In closing, the university president congratulated the faculty, staff, and students, commending the ongoing institutional efforts that contributed to this achievement and affirming the university's continued commitment to solidifying its position among leading universities both locally and globally.
