As part of its social and humanitarian responsibility, the Forensic Evidence Department at the College of Science – Al-Mustaqbal University launched an awareness campaign titled: “Disability Is Not a Barrier… Discrimination Is,” with the participation of Assistant Lecturer Howaida Nazzal Hussein and Wqar Jefat Jasim.
The campaign aimed to enhance community awareness about the importance of accepting persons with disabilities, highlighting their abilities and potential, and affirming that disability itself does not hinder excellence and success. Rather, the real barriers lie in the lack of awareness, support, and equal opportunities.
The campaign also focused on the importance of social inclusion and creating a supportive educational environment that empowers individuals with disabilities. It included awareness messages and open discussions with students, which contributed to correcting misconceptions, promoting values of respect and human solidarity, and emphasizing the role of educational institutions in supporting people with special needs.
This campaign aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly:
Goal 4: Quality Education – Ensuring inclusive and equitable education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities – Promoting social and economic inclusion without discrimination.
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being – Supporting individuals’ mental and social well-being.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals – Encouraging collaboration between educational institutions and the community to spread awareness.
This initiative reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to supporting humanitarian causes, promoting a culture of empowerment and equality, and enhancing students’ role in building an aware and inclusive society that provides opportunities for all without exception.
