Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ammar Abbas Al-Husseini, and within the activities of the College of Law in the field of sustainable development, the College organized a panel discussion entitled:
“The Role of Legal Texts in Achieving Sustainable Development for Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs.”
The panel was held on Wednesday, 17/12/2025, in the College of Law Hall – Humanities Building.
The lecture was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ali Ayed Al-Zuhairi, who addressed the importance of legal texts in supporting and achieving the principles of sustainable development, particularly with regard to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and special needs. He emphasized the role of legislation in promoting the principle of equality and ensuring the integration of these groups into society.
The panel also reviewed the legal framework governing the rights of persons with disabilities in Iraqi legislation, highlighting the role of legal texts in providing legal and social protection, and stressing the importance of activating these texts in a manner consistent with international standards and conducive to achieving social justice.
At the conclusion of the panel, the lecturer emphasized the importance of enhancing students’ legal awareness regarding the rights of persons with disabilities and special needs, and the role of law in achieving sustainable development, in a way that contributes to building a just and balanced society that respects the rights of all its members.
