Under the gracious patronage of the Honorable President of the University, with the supervision of the Honorable Dean of the College of Science and the direct supervision of the Head of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, the Sustainability Ambassadors of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems organized a panel discussion entitled:
“Technology and Mental Health in the Digital Age: The Impact of Smart Devices and Social Media on Individual Mental Health.”
The session aimed to shed light on the positive and negative effects of using smart devices and social media on mental health, particularly in light of the rapid expansion of digital technology and its increasing integration into daily life. The discussion addressed key psychological challenges associated with excessive smartphone use, such as anxiety, stress, social isolation, and sleep disorders, while emphasizing the importance of conscious and balanced use of technology.
The panel discussion was organized and supervised by Lecturer Assistant Najaat Hamid Jassim, with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members and students from the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems. The session witnessed notable interaction and constructive discussions that contributed to raising students’ awareness of the importance of mental health in the digital era.
The themes of the session were aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by promoting mental health and preventing disorders associated with excessive technology use.
Goal 4: Quality Education, through spreading awareness and knowledge about the safe and responsible use of modern technologies.

Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration between faculty members and students to promote digital health culture.
This session is part of a series of awareness activities implemented by the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, reaffirming the university’s role in keeping pace with modern technological developments while safeguarding individuals’ mental health and fostering a conscious and balanced university community.
