As Part of Its Programs Highlighting Academic Pathways, Al-Mustaqbal University Radio Hosts the Head of the Department of English As part of its initiatives aimed at shedding light on academic and educational pathways, Al-Mustaqbal University Radio (AL MUSTAQBAL FM) hosted Dr. Salam Hassan Maki, Head of the Department of English at the College of Education, in a special episode of the program “Future Guide.” The session addressed strategic topics related to the future of English language education and ways to prepare a new generation of educational leaders. Key Highlights of the Radio Session: • Developing Skills, Not Just Grammar: Dr. Salam emphasized that the department does not focus solely on rigid grammar instruction, but rather prioritizes the development of the four core language skills—listening, reading, writing, and speaking—while positioning the student as a “leader” within the classroom. • Difference Between Education and Arts Graduates: He explained that graduates of the College of Education are distinguished by their study of psychology and teaching methodologies, which qualifies them both academically and psychologically to work with different age groups and to teach using modern instructional methods—skills highly demanded by the Ministry of Education. • Integrating Technology and Artificial Intelligence: Dr. Salam revealed the department’s plans to introduce smart boards and artificial intelligence applications into the learning process, helping students overcome fear of making mistakes and improve accurate pronunciation. • Promising Projects and Festivals: The Head of the Department announced preparations for the “Shakespearean Theatre Festival,” with participation from six Iraqi universities, in addition to “English Language Week,” which will include workshops and theatrical performances showcasing students’ talents. • Message to New Students At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Salam invited secondary school graduates (scientific and literary) to join the Department of English, affirming that the department strives to ensure that graduates of Al-Mustaqbal University are always “the first” among their peers in the job market.
