Al-Aqiser Church is an ancient historical church located in the desert of Ain al-Tamur District, about 70 km southwest of Karbala, Iraq. It is considered one of the oldest churches in the country, dating back to the 5th century AD. The church is notable for its Aramaic inscriptions and various depictions of the cross. Some studies indicate that it once served as an important religious center for Christians in the region.
The church is a rectangular structure measuring 40 meters in length and 8 meters in width, featuring a mihrab oriented toward Jerusalem. Its design follows the basilica style, which was common in the construction of early churches.
Despite its historical and religious significance, the church currently suffers from neglect and has been subjected to looting and smuggling, which has led to the deterioration of some of its features.
