Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes a Workshop on Cybersecurity Culture and Social Engineering
Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Muzafar Al-Zuheiri, Scientific and Academic Supervisor, Al-Mustaqbal University organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled:
“Building a Security-First Culture: A Social Engineering Awareness Workshop”, held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, in the university’s main hall, with the wide participation of deans, heads of scientific departments, and a large number of students.
This workshop comes as part of the university’s efforts to enhance cybersecurity awareness among its faculty, staff, and students, and to foster an institutional culture based on digital caution and information responsibility.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Ahmed Khalil Ibrahim, an international expert, Professor at Humber Polytechnic, and Vice President of Cybersecurity at C-SevenFifty Consulting & Training, who shared his extensive experience of over a decade in the fields of networking, cybersecurity, IDS/IPS systems, and Internet infrastructure security.
The session addressed various social engineering techniques used by attackers to exploit the human factor—the weakest link in security systems. Through real-world case studies and interactive exercises, participants learned how to identify, report, and resist deceptive attempts that rely on false trust, curiosity, or urgency, as well as how to apply practical defense mechanisms.
The workshop also highlighted strategies for building a solid security culture within academic environments by empowering faculty members, students, and administrative staff to act as the first line of defense against cyber threats.
The event witnessed a distinguished attendance from deans, department heads, and students from various colleges. Prof. Dr. Mehdi Ebady Manaa, who served as the Scientific Session Rapporteur, emphasized in his remarks the importance of such workshops in enhancing digital security competencies within the academic community and supporting the university’s readiness to face modern cybersecurity challenges in line with the global digital transformation movement.
Al-Mustaqbal University the first university in Iraq.
