Al-Mustaqbal University took part in the third session of the Babylon Environmental Protection and Improvement Council, held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the Directorate of Environment in Babylon. The session was attended by the Deputy Governor for Planning Affairs, the Director of Environment, and several representatives from relevant departments and institutions.

The university was represented by Engineer Khalid Kadhim Al-Salhi, Director of the Sustainable Development Unit, who actively contributed to discussions on pressing environmental issues directly impacting public health and ecological balance in the province.

Key topics discussed included the challenges caused by unregulated animal slaughtering due to the operational suspension of the model slaughterhouse, and the need to resume its function. The session also addressed water sustainability through optimal usage and wastewater recycling for irrigation purposes, in response to climate change impacts. Other issues included medical waste management, stray dog populations, green belt development around Babylon, environmental data platforms, and reactivating the committee to combat stray dogs.

Engineer Al-Salhi emphasized, following the guidance of Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the university’s readiness to actively contribute to solving environmental challenges. This includes conducting joint research with relevant institutions and mobilizing the university’s sustainability ambassadors to lead volunteer campaigns outside the campus to support environmental protection in Babylon.

At the conclusion of the session, a set of binding recommendations was issued, requiring relevant authorities to implement necessary measures within specific timeframes.
