Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a significant academic milestone by ranking among the top ten Iraqi universities in terms of research citations, according to the latest data released by the global Web of Science database. The university secured third place, following the University of Baghdad and the University of Technology, with a total of 29,885 research citations recorded over the past five years (2020–2024).
Additionally, Al-Mustaqbal University also ranked third in the number of published scientific papers during the same period, with a total of 3,179 publications — a clear indicator of the university’s continuous growth in research performance and international scientific presence.
In a statement to the university's media office, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, expressed his pride in this accomplishment, emphasizing that it is the result of the dedication of the university’s faculty and researchers. He highlighted that the achievement reflects the growing quality of scientific output and the success of the university’s international academic and research collaborations. “We remain fully committed to supporting scientific research and promoting a culture of high-quality publishing, as we believe research is a fundamental pillar in advancing higher education in Iraq,” he added.

The department’s faculty and researchers have significantly contributed to the university’s scientific output through high-impact publications in the fields of medicinal plants and natural products, helping to enhance the university’s citation index and international recognition.
