As part of Sustainability Week activities, Assistant Lecturer Istabraq Waleed Atwan Al-Rikabi, from the Department of English Language at the College of Education – Al-Mustaqbal University, organized an educational workshop entitled “Environmental Education and Green Leadership,” attended by a group of students and faculty members.
The workshop aimed to raise environmental awareness and build a generation of future leaders who are conscious of environmental issues and ready to take effective action towards sustainable development goals, particularly:
• Goal 4: Quality Education
• Goal 13: Climate Action
• Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
The session covered several key topics, including:
• The concept and objectives of environmental education.
• The definition of green leadership and the qualities of a green leader.
• Essential green leadership skills.
• Implementing green leadership principles in educational institutions.
• Showcasing successful environmental initiatives at both local and global levels.
A special feature of the workshop was a theatrical performance titled "The Green School of the Future," where students presented symbolic scenes highlighting the significance of green education and its pivotal role in building a sustainable future.
The goals of the play were to:
• Raise awareness about the importance of green education.
• Inspire students to actively participate in environmental protection.
• Demonstrate the value of teamwork in preserving natural resources.
The event was met with great enthusiasm from the attendees, who praised the integration of education, drama, and student creativity. They emphasized the importance of continuing such activities that blend environmental awareness with innovative learning approaches.
