Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new academic milestone by ranking among the top ten Iraqi universities in terms of the number of research citations, as reported in the latest release from the international Web of Science database.
The university secured third place, following the University of Baghdad and the University of Technology, with a total of 29,885 citations recorded for its research output over the past five years (2020–2024). It was followed by the universities of Babil, Al-Mustansiriya, Basrah, Anbar, Kufa, Mosul, and Al-Nahrain, which ranked fourth through tenth, respectively.
In a statement to the university's media office, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, expressed his pride in this achievement, emphasizing that it is the result of the dedicated efforts of the university's faculty and researchers. He highlighted that this recognition reflects the high quality of scientific output and the strength of international academic and research partnerships, which have elevated the university's status in global academic forums.
He added: "We remain committed to supporting a strong research environment and promoting a culture of high-impact publishing, believing that scientific research is a key pillar for advancing higher education in Iraq."
The Web of Science database also noted that Al-Mustaqbal University ranked third in terms of research output during the same five-year period (2020–2024), with 3,179 published research papers, reflecting the university's rapidly growing performance in the field of scientific research.
