As part of efforts to preserve endangered intangible cultural heritage, Dr. Angham Salim Mohammed has carried out a field project to document traditional tattoo patterns in the Al-Hamza Al-Sharqi area, located in the south of Babylon Governorate. This project was implemented in collaboration with the Cultural Protection Fund (CPF) and in partnership with TARII (The Academic Research Institute in Iraq), with the aim of shedding light on this rich and important aspect of Iraqi folk heritage.

The project focuses on collecting and documenting the symbols, meanings, and stories associated with the art of tattooing, particularly among women, as a form of aesthetic and social expression that was once widespread. This initiative represents a serious scholarly and cultural effort to rescue this tradition from extinction amid rapid social and cultural transformations.

The project constitutes an important step toward integrating intangible heritage into academic research and documentation priorities and contributes to raising community awareness of the importance of protecting local cultural identity.
