Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, and with direct support from the Deanery of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies, Dr. Alaa Mohammed Hussein Wais participated—representing Al-Mustaqbal University and serving as Deputy Chairman of the Council—in the meeting of the Industrial Advisory Council held at the College of Materials Engineering – University of Babylon. This participation comes as part of the University's policy aimed at expanding cooperation with academic and industrial institutions and strengthening the partnership between higher education and the labor market.
eeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahim Kadhem Al-Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Materials Engineering, and attended by a number of academic figures and representatives from both the public and private sectors. During the meeting, the importance of forming this council was emphasized, considering it a coordinating platform that aims to connect engineering graduates with the needs of the labor market, thereby contributing to the support of developmental and industrial projects in Iraq.
The meeting addressed several key topics, including the importance of engineering colleges organizing seminars, lectures, and workshops to introduce the labor market to available specializations and their employment prospects. It also explored means of cooperation between colleges, the Engineers Syndicate, and the private sector to create real opportunities for graduates to participate in national projects.
The discussion also covered the adopted curricula and the possibility of updating them to align with local market requirements. Additionally, the council considered launching small-scale projects for the production of metallic, polymeric, or plastic materials to meet the needs of major projects, emphasizing how graduates can help solve technical problems in factories and plants related to their fields of expertise.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed on the need to establish clear work mechanisms and future plans to ensure continuous cooperation between universities, state institutions, and the private sector. Al-Mustaqbal University’s active role in supporting such scientific and professional initiatives was highly praised. Attendees commended the scientific and organizational level of the council, calling for continued meetings and coordination to achieve common goals.
This activity falls under Goal 4 of the Sustainable Development Goals (Quality Education), specifically Target 4.4, which focuses on equipping youth with the technical and vocational skills needed to enhance employment opportunities and promote decent work.
